Zone classification of potentially explosive areas according to ATEX
The EX LED luminaires in the ELBRO range are certified in accordance with the ATEX directive. This divides potentially explosive areas into six zones. The classification is based on the frequency and duration of the occurrence of an explosive atmosphere. A distinction is made between gases, mists, vapors (zones 0-2) and dusts/liquids (zones 20-22).
Zones for gases, vapors, mist
- Zone 0: Permanent or frequent explosive atmosphere.
- Zone 1: Occasionally explosive atmosphere in normal operation.
- Zone 2: Rare and short-term explosive atmosphere.
Zones for dusts
- Zone 20: Permanent or frequent risk of dust explosion.
- Zone 21: Occasional risk of dust explosion during normal operation.
- Zone 22: Rare and short-term risk of dust explosion.
Ex-protected luminaires must have specific types of ignition protection that meet the high safety requirements. Internal components and cable glands must also be designed accordingly.
